Mindspace Wins Gold at District ADDY Awards Competition; Heading to National ADDY Awards
April 14, 2010 – Tempe, AZ
After winning Phoenix’s “Best of Show” ADDY in March, “The Mindspace 2010 Calendar of Rejected Campaign Slogans” has won Gold at the District Twelve ADDY Awards Competition. The next stop for desktop calendar of faux advertising slogans is the National ADDY Awards competition taking place May 7-8 in Washington, D.C.
At the District Twelve ADDY Awards Competition, Mindspace competed against regional Gold ADDY award-winners from Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. At the national competition, Mindspace will be judged alongside more than 1,500 District Gold winners from some of the biggest agencies in the nation.
“With this project we’re fairly certain that we’ve revived the non-swimsuit-based paper calendar,” said Brent Shetler, Principal and Creative Director at Mindspace about the impact this piece has had on the calendar industry. “I mean, people are actually reading it and wondering where they can get one, and that’s pretty cool. Aside from Justin Bieber, this is the hottest thing in world. Well it’s the hottest thing in the advertising agency world. Okay the advertising agency calendar world, but we are proud of it nonetheless.”
Braving the danger of hot glue guns, Mindspace not only designed and wrote copy for the entire calendar, but also assembled it during a pre-Christmas office party. Some sample entries include:
•March 12th—eHarmony.com—“Using 29 different dimension of compatibility to weed you out”
•January 11th—Cheez Whiz—“The Area 51 of dairy”
•February 9th—Greyhound—“Leave the driving, temperature and music controls to us”
•August 9th—Crest Toothpaste—“9 out of 10 dentists don’t have to worry about their brakes being cut”
•October 1st—ExxonMobil—“Like you’ve never spilled anything before”
•November 16th—Depends—“Either way, someone’s going to know”
•September 22nd—Yahoo!—“How about saying “I yahooed it” for a change?
On a daily basis, Mindspace updates their Twitter feed with the current day’s rejected slogan.
