Mindspace Founder Recieves International Design Recognition
January 9, 2007 – Tempe, AZ
Mindspace Founder and Principal Brent Shetler received top honors in Logo Lounge III, a logo showcase featuring national and international award-winning logo designers, for his innovative logo design for Peacemaking at Central, a conflict resolution ministry. Shetler's logo was chosen as one of the top six designs included in the foreword of the book.
Design considerations for the Peacemaking at Central logo included the need to reflect the Christian-based conflict resolution aspect of the ministry, while simultaneously conveying the idea of people being united through the church-run program. These aspects are shown through four people sitting at a table and holding hands, while forming the shape of a cross; the colors chosen convey the tone of conflict-resolution.
The logo was among 2,000 identities compiled and judged by a jury comprised of an elite international group of leading designers and advertising executives; the identities were then published in the Logo Lounge series. Of the 2,000 logos that were published in the recent edition, Shetler's logo design was selected as one of the Top 6 and featured in the front of the book with commentary by the juror who selected it.
"I chose this logo because it engaged me and pulled me into the design on a couple levels-initially, the sheer restraint and striking elegance of the forms, and then the beautiful discovery of the characters holding hands when you take that second look," said Connie Birdsall, Creative Director and senior partner at Lippincott Mercer. "When a designer gets the execution of the elements just right from a formal graphic perspective and tells a compelling story, it's a real accomplishment."
Though the logo spent some time in the concept and development stages, the logo was approved by the client upon first presentation, a rare accomplishment.
"It was incredibly rewarding to read the juror's comments on the logo and find that the symbolism we tried to incorporate into the mark had resonated with the audience as we had intended," said Shetler. "There were a lot of subtle messages in the mark that we had hoped would be recognized and discovered as the mark was viewed... and it worked."
In addition to the Peacemaking at Central logo being named Top 6, Logo Lounge III published four logos designed by Mindspace, including Chrysalis Shelter, Omnilink Systems, Destinator Technologies and Armorworks. Over the past three editions, 12 logos designed by Mindspace have been published in Logo Lounge.
